Tax Documents
On this page, you can find information for Accessing Your Tax Documents online and, for future years, choosing to Receive Tax Documents by Mail.
If you logged into Schwab’s website last year and opted for electronic monthly statements, it’s possible you accidentally signed up for electronic tax documents as well. It’s worth checking your current preferences to make sure that you are set up to receive copies by mail in the future if that is what you prefer. Keep in mind, even if you change to mail delivery now, this year’s will still only be electronic if that is the current setting. We step you through the simple update process in the Receive Tax Documents by Mail section below.
Accessing Your Tax Documents
Login to client.schwab.com. These instructions are for the desktop version of the website, though this information is available on the mobile website too.
In the top left of the page, in the header, select Accounts.
In the small sub-header beneath the main header, select Statements.
Under the blue dropdown below Statements, ensure that All Brokerage Accounts is selected. This will let you view all of your accounts at once.
For each account listed, can see your documents or, on the far right, the date they are expected to be available to download.
Please Note: You may not receive a 1099 for every one of your accounts.
You will not receive a tax statement for any IRA that you did not make a withdrawal from in the past year. The most common types of IRA accounts are Traditional, Roth, Rollover, SEP, Simple, Minor, and Minor Roth IRAs.
You will likely receive a tax statement for any taxable (Individual, Joint, TOD, etc.) account that you own, regardless of contributions or withdrawals in the past year. The most common types of brokerage accounts are Individual, Joint, Custodial, and Estate accounts.
For accounts that were at TD Ameritrade before being moved to Schwab, you will receive two 1099s instead of one.
